RE: Use of RV Stabilizers with a Class C

Sorry for the late reply bukhrn.. but it looks like Kamphiker gave you a good link to check them out. Mine were already installed on my RV when I purchased it new. The picture came from the stabilizer website I found in some of my literature that came with the RV. If I can find time and the paperwork again, I'll try and post the website for you. I use mine all the time and they work quite well. Some folks get confused about stabilizers and think they can be used to JACK UP the RV. A big mistake and they are labeled quite plainly NOT to do this. After several uses, it becomes quite easy to tell just how much upward pressure to apply to get maximum support and very little if any rocking movement. The bumper is mounted to they frame in the normal fashion most square bumpers are. The stabilizers are mounted inside the hollow bumper and come with new end-caps in order to screw them down. Hope this helps. Patrick

RE: Use of RV Stabilizers with a Class C

My 26' Class C Coachmen came with these stabilizers built into the rear bumper from the factory. You use the crank handle to raise and lower them. I use a socket and ratchet drive (much faster). They can be purchased and installed if you have the same square hollow bumper type. Patrick http://s519.photobucket.com/albums/u357/rvsunseeker/BumperJack.jpg height=250 width=250

RE: How to measure power usage??

kcabpilot.. Good point. I overlooked the fact that I used a 15 AMP plug in my garage many times when parked in my own drive. I'm just always cautious that I don't overload it when I'm using the A/C for short periods and do not use anything other then lights when it's on. I would be using the same precautions when visiting. That being said, the 15 Amp Killawatt unit may work for me after all. Thanks for reminding me. Patrick

RE: Possible electrical problem

You might also want to check your chassis ground connections. Before I found that to be my cause for several electrical problems and fixed it, I was also getting a small tingling shock from the metal parts of my Ford cab when in my bare feet. After I repaired the connections, no more shock! Patrick http://s519.photobucket.com/albums/u357/rvsunseeker/GroundBolts.jpg height=300 width=300

RE: How to measure power usage??

Probably the best solution Gene... Besides they are all great folks and no matter what I offer, I'm sure it's going to be a real fight getting them to accept it. Thanks again everyone. Patrick

RE: How to measure power usage??

Thanks for the helpful suggestions everyone. I'll keep looking around to see if I can find a device that will give me total usage for the day/week etc. It would be kind of hard to track each appliance individually with different usage amounts for different days. :h Especially the A/C, seeing it would be running more one day then the next. Also.. when all else fails... I'll just GUESSTIMATE.. and take them out to dinner to show my appreciation. Either Mickey-Dees or a steak house depending on how the guesstimate comes out. :B

How to measure power usage??

I would like to measure the amount of power I'm using when my RV is plugged into friends & relatives shore line. I found this unit at Harbor Freight for around $30 but it is only rated for 15 amps MAX. I would need something that would handle a 30 amp RV. Has anyone seen a device that will work for what I'm trying to accomplish and is not too pricy? Thanks in advance. RE: Onan Exhaust Fumes at the Wrong Time

pnichols.. are you sure it was not the stink of the Great Salt Lake that set your alarms off? At 95+ it can get pretty rank..! Ha ha Sorry... I just had to toss that in. I live in UT and on a really hot day with the wind blowing just right.. OH WOW... LOL

RE: Picture of my Dometic "Patch"

Patrick -- Well, since nobody sees it but me, the wood bracket works just fine. Post back in a couple years and let us know if you got around to "upgrading" your fan install! By the way, I didn't bother with a switch. I connect the fan in May, disconnect in October. Change the smoke detector batteries, turn the fridge fan on or off. That's my "switch." Hi 99damon.. I'm sure the wood bracket will be fine, but having it next to the gas burner.. I don't know.. somehow a little voice in my head keeps saying.. SURE.. throw another long on the fire!! Ha Ha The fan on full time on sounds like it is working for you pretty well. I do a lot of dry camping here in the mountains of Utah and batter power is gold. I'm sure the draw off my battries by the fan is small, but it gives me peace of mind when dry camping, that I can turn things off. Take care... Patrick

RE: Picture of my Dometic "Patch"

Thanks WilleyB.. As itsalleasy said, the fan is suppose to be a big help on the fridge cooling system and in the part of Utah, 90's quite a few days of the summer not to mention a short trip south and you're above 100 in no time at all. I have to admit.. had I noticed my fridge had a fan high up on the back side of the unit, I may have held off until it burned out before installing the one I did. wwest... had a good idea also if one didn't want to be bothered with the recall. However, that metal shield was only part of the patch. It also involved some changes that turns the gas off sooner in case of a problem if I'm not mistaken. Thanks again, Patrick

Picture of my Dometic "Patch"

I installed a 12vdc fan in the back of my refrigerator. But this picture also shows the Dometic recall "PATCH" as I call it. As it turned out, my fridge had a fan built into its system however it was so far up on the back of the fridge, should it go out, I would never be able to reach it without removing the fridge. The extra fan I installed has its own thermostat to start & stop the fan however the system fan always kicks on BEFORE my new fan would. So I bypassed the thermostat on my new fan and installed the on/off switch in the bottom vent cover so I could reach it from the outside of my rig to turn it on around 80 degrees instead of the 90 preset temperature. Here are a few pictures of the install. You can see I installed it AFTER the Dometic recall mod (large metal shield to the right of the fan) was taken care of by my local RV center. I added the wood bracket for now but plan on replacing it with a metal one soon. The fan came with its own metal bracket but would not allow me to point the fan upwards. I also installed this corner shelf next to my bed so I would have a place to set my glasses, keys, and wallet at night. Also a good spot for my Noaa weather radio. I picked up the rack at Wal-mart for 6 bucks and cut it down to just two shelves. I used the 3M self-stick (removable pull tab) hooks I found there also. RE: central vac. systems

I did mine "ON THE CHEAP" sort off. Picked up a $60 shop vac at Lowe's and installed it in my storage area. I then pull the hose into my rig when I want to use it and then stuff the hose back into the storage unit when finished. Next time in storage unit, I coil the hose up neatly. Also keep the unit ON so I can use the switch inside my rig to turn the vac off and on with switch next to hose. RE: What did you do to your Class C MH today???

Rayamash.. I also installed a 12vdc fan in the back of my refrigerator. PS: To answer Nick… I purchased the fan at my local RV supply store as a kit.. fan, switch, wire, thermostat for about $20 to $25 bucks. It’s pretty small..! I also installed this corner shelf next to my bed so I would have a place to set my glasses, keys, and wallet at night. Also a good spot for my Noaa weather radio. You might want to check your coach ground system. Some of my battery problems solved in these photos: http://www.rv.net/forums/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/20538189/gotomsg/20571890.cfm#20571890 Patrick

RE: Black water.. How long before you empty it?

I use "Bio-Clean" which is a natural bacteria and enzyme powder that you mix with warm water and add to your holding tanks. http://www.statewidesupply.com/what.html Shifer.. After looking into this product, I believe I'll give it a try. A local dealer in my town has Bio-Clean so he is going to deliver some tomorrow. It is quite pricey ($45) but they said it should last a year or longer. So we'll see how it works out. Thanks again for the tip on the product. Patrick

My original subject line has been edited so I'm guessing one of the moderators did not approve of my choice of words used. :h Anyway.. all suggestions on the "forbidden subject" are still appreciated. Patrick

RE: Black water.. How long before you empty it?

We have found that, in the heat of summer, the gray tank is the one that starts stinking after a few days if not emptied. a while. Is there any reason NOT to use a small amount of the same black tank chemicals in your gray tank to prevent orders? Has anyone tried this? Patrick
